Rival Networks Now on Kickstarter

I was really excited to see the news that a 2-player version of the wonderful Gil Hova design The Networks was going to be released and be on Kickstarter in January.

I was so excited that I announced the news as soon as I heard it!

Thus, it makes me very happy to announce that the campaign is now live!

It’s almost reached it’s $20,000 goal already and probably will by tonight.

Top 10 Games Played in 2019 (10-6)

It’s that time of year again!

Time to look back at 2019 and see what games I played this year and which ones I definitely want to play again. Also, which ones can be left by the side of the road looking all forlorn because they just aren’t that good.

I had a pretty good year in 2019. I played 107 games 192 times (not each!). Of those 107 games, 63 were new to me, which was a lot of fun. I always love learning new games (and I like to keep my cult members happy).

Surprisingly, I played the exact same number of games (107) in 2018 but 67 of them were new (and I had 201 plays).

Smash Up was my number one game played with 16 plays, followed by 11 plays of Space Base (both of them are work lunchtime game staples, so it’s not surprising).

My most amazing feat, however, was getting Eldritch Horror to the table a whopping 5 times! That includes 4 times in the last two months of the year.

Of course, there are side effects to that.

On Fire

But we endure!

So let’s see what the top 10 games that I played this year are. There may be a few surprises based on last year’s rankings.

I’m nothing if not Walt Whitman.

Please note that this is not the Top 10 games of 2019. I actually did a count, and I only played 20 games published in 2019. Thus, half of them would be on that list if I did that.

No, these are the Top 10 games that I played in 2019.

This post will be broken into two parts, so here are numbers 6-10! (The Top 5 will post on Wednesday)

Rival Networks to hit Kickstarter on January 28

Gil Hova’s The Networks is in my Top 5 games played of all time (at least as of earlier this year) so I was kind of excited to hear about the 2-player version of the game, called “Rival Networks“.

Now it finally has a release date!

Well, not a release date exactly, but a Kickstarter campaign start date! (In this day and age, that’s often the best you can get).

Formally announced by Hova yesterday on Twitter and in his monthly email update, this 2-player version of the awesome game will see two players vying to run the best television network.

Rival Networks - TV Show

It will still have the zany TV show parodies that we all know and love from the regular game, but these will be even more current.

Is that the Mandalorian I see? Wow, I wonder what the name of the show will be?

The Rival Networks Coming from Formal Ferret Games

Quick news post today (I promise a review is coming later this week).

Long-time readers know of my love for The Networks (designed by Gil Hova). Not only did I give it a glowing review, but it made it into my Top 5 games played of all-time.

Today’s email brought a welcome announcement from Gil (and Formal Ferret Games): The Rival Networks!

Rival Networks - Red Bloods
Artworks isn’t finalized and is from the announcement post

This is a 2-player quick-playing version of The Networks that will be a bit less complex than its parent game.

As Gil says in his post, these are prototypes so not only is the artwork not final, but neither are the rules necessarily!

Top 25 Games Played of All Time (5-1)

Happy Valentine’s Day!

What a fitting day to share the love I have for my Top 5 Games.

We’ve reached the end, those of you who have been holding your breath to see what my Top 5 games played are. Hopefully you didn’t hold your breath so long that you went blue in the face!

I’ve heard there are problems with that.

Anyway, these are my 5 favourite games, and is it any surprise that all of them have reviews on this site (other than one, which said review is coming but I didn’t want to spoil the list by posting it first)?

It’s been fun doing this list, also knowing that most of these games wouldn’t really be on anybody else’s Top 25.

I like being unique.

As I’ve said in every entry, please keep in mind that this is only out of a total of 296 games, so it’s very possible that your favourite game is one that I haven’t played.

So why don’t we get on with this before I get a bunch of Aladdin fans swarming the blog commenting on Will Smith (I’ve heard they’re kind of like Islanders fans…)

New to Me – December 2018

I’m back!

It’s been a long month at Dude Central, and thank you everyone for the good wishes, the patience, and the condolences. December was a pretty bad month in general, with me generally not being in the mood to play games (or write blog posts either).

shocked

Shocker, I know!

That really plays havoc with the Cult of the New to Me and could have actually sparked a rebellion.

Thankfully, all of the cult members overdosed on sugar cookies and passed out for the entire month (Some people really know how to bake, like my sister-in-law).

So thankfully, my position is secure. While I played no new games in December, I did get to play three new expansions.

So without further adieu (all of my adieu was hijacked from a colony trade ship as it was headed to Pluto anyway), let’s take a look at those expansions!

Review – The Networks

(Edit: This is one of my Top 5 Games Played of all Time, as of February 2019 anyway. Check out the other games as well!)

Do you think you can run a television network better than the morons who thought it would be a good idea to cancel not only the incredible Firefly but also the incredibly underrated Adventures of Briscoe County Jr.?

Briscoe County Jr.
Bruce Campbell is the bomb!

(sorry, that one still hurts)

In Gil Hova’s The Networks (published in 2016 by Hova’s Formal Ferret Games, with art by Heiko Günther and Travis Kinchy), you can! You and up to 4 opponents will vie for viewers by developing shows for your network, landing ads and recruiting stars to try and build your network from a public access channel to one that will command the eyes of every viewer in the world!

Ok, that may be an exaggeration.

Let’s see how the game works briefly.
