The Networks: Executives now on Kickstarter!

After a long and unscheduled delay in posting here at Dude Central, how about we start with some actual news before going into stuff that I missed?

That’s right, as promised last month, the expansion for The Networks has gone live on Kickstarter.

The expansion is called The Networks: Executives and has a ton of cool stuff added to broaden the scope of the base game.

I have to admit that, as much as I love the base game, it can become a bit “samey” the more you play (I have 8 logged plays). Sure, the order of the shows coming out, and the stars & ads, is random but you’re still seeing the same ones over and over.

It became a bit stale.

A stale game that I still loved to play, mind you. But that touch of staleness, like the chips that you left out overnight that still taste good but you definitely wish that you had bothered to put them away before passing out in your drunken stupor the night before.

Not that I’m speaking from experience or anything…

But anyway, yes. MOAR STUFF!!!!!!

You have your Network Executives (ha! I just now got why it’s called that…) that each player begins with. Each executive has a different special power that will guide you in how you want to play that specific game.

An example from the Kickstarter page:

You can play as Flix, which turns your network into a streaming service that lets you consider all your Shows as being in their proper time slots… but every time you switch genres within a time slot, you lose Viewers.

You can play as Beeb, which turns your network into a state-run enterprise that tends to generate revenue. But because you now have a lot of bureaucracy to deal with, you must use a rondel to choose your actions.

There are also “Season 0” shows that will be drafted and thus create new starting situations for each player.

Finally, a certain number of “Mogul” cards will be available each game that you can take when you complete your first 5-show genre bonus or your second 3-show genre bonus.

If you missed out on this game completely, you can pledge a higher-amount and get both the base game and the expansion, which I heartily recommend.

Since I have been enjoying the base game for a year now, that’s not necessary for me, but I did do the $29 pledge level to get the expansion itself.

I highly recommend this game. It is fun, funny, and I haven’t had anybody play it who hasn’t enjoyed it.

Hmmm…I guess I should get an actual review of the game up soon, eh?

Until then, though, go to the Kickstarter page and back it to whatever level it takes to make sure you have both the base and expansion.

I’ll even post the link here again so you don’t have to scroll (because I look after my readers that way)

You’ll be glad you did.

Edit: It funded in 5 hours and 37 minutes! But there are still some great stretch goals, so get over there and back it!
